I will write about the history here.
Talk about hos this is a normal Japanese high school and NOT an international school. But we help out international students and help japanese students be more internationally minded.
Talk about how we want people to come visit us and we want other activities to help build more world leaders.
Brent Regan is the Head of the International Department. He is from Calgary, Canada.
He came to Japan in October 1997 to further his karate under a famous karate teacher。He planned to stay in Japan for 3 to 6 months. However, one thing led to another and his time in Japan became much longer than expected. He is now currently a 5th degree black belt in his style of Karate.
Brent began teaching English at a number of different language schools at the beginning of his stay and then in 2005 he began teaching in high schools. He has taught all ages and all levels of English learners.
A chance meeting with a fellow Canadian karateka, Richard Mosdell, led to a great friendship and eventually to Seiritsu. Richard was the Head of the International Department at Seiritsu at that time. When Richard found himself moving back to Canada, he introduced Brent and Seiritsu to each other. Brent came to Seiritsu in 2014 and has been in charge of the International Department ever since. He has been involved with a lot of new activities at the school to help promote global opportunities.
JC was born and raised in the United States, surrounded by cornfields in the rural state of Iowa, not far from the mighty MIssissippi River. He always had an interest in geography, culture and language. He attended the University of Iowa, majoring in Anthropology, and also studied the Japanese language as part of his studies. He eventually decided to join the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) as a way to experience life and work in Japan, a country he had learned a lot about, intending to stay two years. He was assigned an English teaching position in a rural corner of the already rural Fukushima prefecture. He picked up the local dialect with relish, and enjoyed the bountiful mountain nature of the area for two years before marrying his wife, from the relatively nearby regional city of Aizu Wakamatsu. After spending over 3 more years in Fukushima, he and his wife and young son moved to Tokyo.
JC taught at two well-known junior/senior high schools in Chiba, commuting from nearby Tokyo during this time. He was also involved in a number of international exchange groups using his interpretation skills as well as some pro bono Japanese English translation for volunteer projects. In 2018, JC started his current position at Seiritsu Gakuen, as an International Department coordinator and English teacher.
In his free time JC enjoys watching professional sumo and sharing knowledge he has accumulated about the sport to the greater world. He also enjoys watching classic movies and traveling in Japan and abroad. Though he originally planned to stay in Japan only two years, he currently has no plans to leave Japan, having lived here over half his life.
Jamie Scott was born in the South Island of New Zealand but moved to the North Island at a young age. After completing high school he moved to Australia to attend university in Melbourne. After completing university he worked for the New South Wales state government then took a working holiday to Canada and the UK. After returning to Australia he moved to Darwin and worked for the Northern Territory government. Having the desire to live and work in Asia he came to Japan on a working holiday with the intention of staying only one year.
Since being in Tokyo he has worked as an English teacher at two private high schools and two public high schools for a total of twenty years.
Jamie Scott is the newest member of the International Department joining in April 2023. Outside of work Jamie has many interests. He was a rugby player for many years playing in New Zealand, Australia and Canada. He has a strong interest in traveling with his favorite places being South East Asia and southern Japan.
Olivia was born in London, went to university in Bristol and is now living and working in Tokyo.
She studied French and Italian at university and during her degree was fortunate to be able to work in Paris, France and Florence, Italy. After enjoying her life abroad surrounded by different cultures and languages, she decided to join the JET Programme and work as an ALT in Japan in order to learn more about a country which she had been interested in for a long time and a language that poses a challenge to any learner.
Having been fortunate to be sent to Tokyo of all the possible locations, Olivia arrived in Japan in November 2020 for her first visit to the country. In the year since moving she has fallen in love with the architecture, art and, above all, the food. Teaching English has been a great undertaking and with kind colleagues and fun students, she continues to enjoy her work and further develop her teaching.
Outside of work, Olivia enjoys dance and participates with the school dance club to spend more time with her students and colleagues, as well as to do an activity she loves. She also enjoys climbing and going to see art exhibitions around Tokyo, as well as eating out at various restaurants to experience more of Japanese food culture.
Jessica was born and raised in Liverpool, United Kingdom which is famous for the Liverpool Football Club and is home to one of the greatest rock bands of all time, The Beatles. She graduated from the University of Leicester with a Bachelor's degree in Management Studies. She also studied Korean language and Business Administration at Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea and further studied Japanese language, literature and culture at Nara Women’s University in Japan. As a result, she developed a deep interest in Japanese culture which inspired her to complete her dissertation on the working culture in Japan. After graduating, she wanted to experience the Japanese working culture first-hand and so was motivated to join the JET programme as an ALT. Furthermore, Jessica has studied Cantonese and Mandarin for over ten years. This has laid the foundation for her to study Japanese which she enjoys doing in her spare time. She is also interested in cooking and creating new dishes with different unique ingredients. In addition, she likes to challenge herself and try new hobbies such as bouldering, arts and crafts and archery.
